We only charge students when they test to change to the next belt color. Unlike many other schools that charge for every level within a belt and then again for the belt color change, we believe in keeping testing fees fair and meaningful.
Each belt color has up to three levels, allowing students to progress, refine their skills, and move to higher classes. However, we only charge for actual belt promotions, as these tests are more involved and signify a major step in a student’s journey.
Every test is carefully documented, ensuring that all progress is recorded for future black belt submission to Kukkiwon, the official Taekwondo governing body.
A student's rank from another school not affiliated with Pure Taekwondo is non-transferable. Students wishing to have their rank evaluated must book a free class try-out with the Grandmaster for assessment. There is no guarantee of retaining rank, as each student must meet Pure Taekwondo's standards of excellence. If the assessment is positive, students may still need time to adjust before progressing. Kukkiwon certification is the only way to retain a black belt rank, but students must still meet Pure Taekwondo's standards to advance.
Absolutely! Pure Taekwondo is an affiliated member of Kukkiwon, Kukkiwon Membership System, and the WTMU. Black belt candidates who pass the exam at Pure Taekwondo will receive an official Kukkiwon Certificate and Kukkiwon ID card. We do not issue in-house certificates—our certifications are legitimate and recognized worldwide.
Kukkiwon is a government-sanctioned entity in Korea responsible for certifying black belts worldwide. In addition to certification, Kukkiwon sets the standards for Taekwondo techniques and competition, ensuring consistency and quality across all affiliated schools. Kukkiwon certification guarantees that black belt ranks are recognized and maintained at any Kukkiwon-affiliated school, providing global credibility to your Taekwondo achievements.
Belt level exams are held every 30 to 45 days depending on student eligiblity.
Students that meet testing requirements are eligible for the belt level examination.
At Pure Taekwondo, we follow the guidelines set by our curriculum and Kukkiwon to ensure that students meet all necessary requirements for their belt exams. Progression is based on skill, dedication, and effort—this is not a "pay-to-play" environment. Every student must work hard to earn their rank, and while there are no guarantees of passing the tests, we are committed to providing the support and guidance needed to help every student succeed.
Make-up tests are no longer available due to their disruptive impact on other students and our training schedule. This change ensures fairness to all students who train hard and attend the scheduled test, as prior make-up tests often gave an unintended advantage and disrupted class routines.
Students needing to miss a test or re-test must wait for the next testing cycle. However, those demonstrating proficiency may test up to one week early as an exception.
At Pure Taekwondo, we absolutely love when parents connect with their children! However, we kindly suggest that parents refrain from assisting their children during or after class. It's all about keeping things separate to help the kids focus and learn effectively.
Our goal is to maintain a high level of quality and ensure that students have a clear understanding of where their guidance comes from throughout their martial arts journey. For more details, please feel free to check out the guidelines section – it's there to help you!
Parents are not recommended to coach their child while they are competing. Doing so will confuse the student in how they should perform under pressure. The masters and instructors of Pure Taekwondo are US Taekwondo certified coaches and highly qualified to coach students upto the international level.
Parents should entrust their child to our coaches during these competitions. Students should always leverage their master/ instructor and coach of Pure Taekwondo as the source of truth.
We recommend that during competitions, parents remain on the sidelines to cheer on their children. Please leave the coaching to the masters, as their guidance ensures students perform their best.
We value your feedback! At Pure Taekwondo, we periodically send out surveys to gather insights on how we’re doing.
To ensure that we can provide thoughtful responses, we kindly ask that members refrain from providing feedback during or between class times. For a smoother flow of classes, we prefer that feedback be submitted via email to puretaekwondo@gmail.com.
Email allows our Grandmaster the time needed to carefully consider and respond to your feedback.

No, is the simplest answer. Here’s the truth:
At Pure Taekwondo, we provide top-quality martial arts training in Taekwondo, self-defense, and Olympic-style sparring. Martial arts is not a quick journey—it’s a long-term commitment to growth and discipline.
We are not a "black belt factory" or a "McDojo". Pure TKD does not prioritize rapid promotions over real skill development. Unfortunately, many schools operate this way, but Pure Taekwondo stands apart.
We embrace tradition in every sense of the word. Our students earn their ranks through hard work and dedication. This approach instills a genuine sense of achievement, ownership of their abilities, and pride in their progress.
Students must demonstrate competency in form, technique, and behavior to receive their grade.
Pure Taekwondo uses the "Technical Grading System" or "TGS" that helps students understand their strengths and areas for improvement, keeping them motivated and pushing them to the next level.
Pure TKD™ is a Kukkiwon-affiliated school that teaches a "Modern" style of Taekwondo based on Kukkiwon’s organized standards. While we embrace modern techniques, we are also deeply rooted in traditional martial arts training, incorporating many old-school techniques that remain practical and highly effective in today’s competitive Taekwondo landscape.
Pure Taekwondo teaches Taeguek forms, as they are the official poomsae required for Kukkiwon black belt certification. These forms are essential for progression and mastery in our program.
Visit the Curriculum page for more details.
We recommend children of 5 years of age as the minimum age limit. Martial arts in general is a high impact activity, we recommend for parents to think twic about enrolling your children at an earlier age. Children are their own indvidiual and may have a great aptitude to do martial arts traing. The best way to find out is by booking a demo class to see if it is a fit.
Students must meet the Pure Taekwondo criteria to become eligible for black belt testing. If you would like additional information regarding black belt requirements, please visit the Pure Taekwondo curriculum page.
Pure Taekwondo does not have a limitation to the amount of classes a registered member can attend. Pure Taekwondo members are recommended to attend a minimum of two classes per week but can attend more based on the schedule. Members should check the schedule before attending other classes.
At Pure Taekwondo, students progress in a safe, supervised, and friendly environment where sparring is an essential component of their training.
Sparring begins at the yellow belt level and is a requirement for belt graduation. However, our priority is always safety first. Students are taught proper techniques, defensive skills, and how to spar with control and respect for their partners. This ensures that everyone learns in a supportive atmosphere without fear of injury.
To maintain safety standards, all students who achieve yellow belt are required to own Pure Taekwondo-approved sparring equipment, designed to provide maximum protection during practice.
Taekwondo sparring is not about aggression—it’s about discipline, self-control, and practical self-defense skills. It builds confidence, sharpens reflexes, and fosters teamwork and camaraderie among students.
