Grandmaster Carlo, Founder and Head Master of Pure Taekwondo, has dedicated his life to Taekwondo since 1980, training under 9th Dan Grandmaster Kim and and in 1995 - 1997 he trained under Olympic Gold Medalist Kuk Hyun Chung. With more than 40 years of experience, he has shaped champions and leaders through his teaching. For 15 years, he led the Stanford Taekwondo Program, co-directed the Stanford Taekwondo Open alongside Grandmaster Kim, and in 2016 launched Google’s Mountain View Taekwondo program, widely recognized for innovation and excellence. 


A USA Taekwondo (USAT) Level 3 Coach, Grandmaster Carlo has developed more than 14 National Champions and, in 2025 alone, guided 17 athletes to AAU West Coast Regional and National titles. His own career highlights include gold medals at the U.S. Open in 2012 and 2023, along with three golds at the 2025 Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Championship. His program emphasizes discipline, precision, and integrity—building champions on and off the mat.

Master Jeff

7th Dan Black Belt

Master Jeff began his Taekwondo journey at age 14 in Upstate New York after a pivotal moment in his youth led his father to introduce him to martial arts. Training under Grandmaster Sang Lee—who later became the U.S. Olympic Head Coach in 1988 and former USA Taekwondo Presidewnt, he quickly developed a lifelong passion for Taekwondo.


After college, Master Jeff continued his training at Kim’s KTA, where he formed a lasting friendship with Grandmaster Carlo. He went on to earn his 7th Dan under Grandmaster Sang Lee and currently serves on the executive board of the U.S. Taekwondo Center (USTC).


A decorated competitor, Master Jeff has won numerous national and international titles, represented the United States at the World Championships in Korea, and most recently captured three first-place finishes at the 2025 Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Championship alongside his longtime friend, Grandmaster Carlo. Today, as a senior leader at Pure Taekwondo, he remains dedicated to advancing his art and inspiring the next generation of martial artists.

Master Paul Singh, Ph.D

6th Dan Black Belt

Ratinder Paul Singh Ahuja, Ph.D., earned his 6th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo under the mentorship of Grandmaster Kim. He met Grandmaster Carlo at age 16, and their enduring friendship has shaped his martial arts career. As a core member of Pure Taekwondo, Ratinder continues to embody excellence in both his professional and personal life.


A distinguished serial entrepreneur and CTO of Pure Storage, Dr. Ahuja’s innovative work spans multiple successful startups and acquisitions, with expertise in network security and data loss prevention. His passion for technology is matched by his commitment to Taekwondo, where his leadership extends beyond the boardroom to inspiring others in martial arts.

Master Adam

6th Dan Black Belt

Master Adam began his Taekwondo journey at age five under Grandmaster Kim, earning his 3rd Degree Black Belt by the age of thirteen, one of the youngest in the school's history.


His competitive success came early, winning four Junior National Championships before turning thirteen. While attending UC Irvine, he continued to compete at a high level, winning multiple Collegiate National Championships and founding the prestigious UC Irvine Taekwondo Program. During his collegiate years, he further developed his training under Grandmaster Vu in Irvine.


After completing his studies, Master Adam returned to Kim’s Taekwondo to continue his advancement, earning both his 4th and 5th Degree Black Belts under his original lineage. Among his many competitive highlights, he captured a Gold Medal at the 2009 U.S. Nationals, defeating a student of Olympic Gold Medalist Jimmy Kim in the finals.


Now united with Grandmaster Carlo at Pure Taekwondo, Master Adam serves as the Athletic Sparring Director. In this role, he is committed to developing the next generation of athletes, instilling discipline, competitive spirit, and a passion for Taekwondo, while continuing his own journey of growth.

Grandmaster Carlo descends from the iconic Kim’s Taekwondo Academy (KTA), led by Grandmaster Kim, the founding father of Taekwondo in California and the Stanford Taekwondo Program. As the only student to start as a white belt and achieve the rank of High Dan Kukkiwon ranked Master under Grandmaster Kim, Grandmaster Carlo's skills are purely from a legendary champion and pioneer in the martial arts world. 

Pure TKD operates with integrity, ensuring transparency and top-quality Taekwondo classes. Our name reflects our commitment to excellence in both business and training. Our masters and instructors have a combined experience of over 200 years and has served the Bay Area for over a decade. We provide quality instruction to students of all ages, building them for the future to become better people through training in confidence, resilience and strength while building champions.
